The Aloe Vera Grows Ragged

The Aloe Vera Grows Ragged

Break the barbed plant to heal a burn.
The aloe vera grows ragged but
is not wild.

Plants are half-asleep.
Sleep is what breaks time into sentences,
drowsiness is how sleep reaches for us.

Sleep is a many-tentacled thing.
Everything is a many-tentacled thing.

  1. "Sleep is what breaks time into sentences"--I esp. like that, but even more, the surprising (shocking?), yet prepared-for last line. I try to embrace its idea, and I like the way you got there.

  2. Definitely makes me think about my poor aloe plants struggling to make it through the unusually cold winter (for Texas, that is).
