We Measure a Song By Its Refrain

We Measure a Song By Its Refrain

How come what sticks
sticks.

How does the picture
gather magic

and your devotion.
Plop gravel

in your pan, and shake,
get down

to the black sand and
gold.

Why is what’s darker
heavier.

Ask the wrestlers how
they make

weight, you have to run
and wear

a trash bag. A song boils
down, you

are left with one of two
elements:

I am with you, or I am not
with you.
