The Box Is the Toy

The Box Is the Toy

The river is moving
but the meadow is still.

That is what we think

which is why we forget about
how big of a box the planet is in
and how big of a box
with no sides
that box is in.

  1. I thought you might be inspired by Virginer. Such great images for ekphrastic poetry.

  2. Before reading this I was thinking of how boxes are perfect toys for kitties...but I like your thinking....the seemingly still meadow is really not still...missed you but try to stop when I can...happy thursday Hannah, and I cannot believe that it is already Thursday!

  3. This is a gorgeous poem. And congratulations on having it reprinted in A Year of Being Here!
