This Week, Feeling Inspired by...

  • This song, “Calling Cards,” by Neko Case (I have a memorized calling card number from 14 years ago that I occasionally use):

  • Eric Valli’s photography. I am in awe of these gorgeous photos. They do tell stories, but by immersing viewers into one fragment/scene of a story. There is something to learn here, I think.

  • A bunch of readings that I’ll be doing throughout fall! It’s a good opportunity to read new work, and experiment with what pieces I group together. And it’s always fun to read one or two poems not by me!

And you, friends?

  1. Do I strike you as a fairly honest person? I swear, as I looked through Valli's photos on the link, I thought, "Man, this guy is good enough to be in National Geographic." Then I looked at his magazine credits. Thanks for the intro, and good luck on the readings, not that you'll need it.

  2. Introductory aside: I'm a huge fan of The New Pornographers.

This post made me realize that beyond "funny Internet pictures," I don't really examine photography/photographs. Maybe I've been missing out.
