For the Threadbare

from "That I Loved," by Toril Brancher

For the Threadbare

For I have seen the frayed edge of supposed wholeness
and this has helped me see where I was threadbare

and self-repair can look like smooth stones stolen
from the water’s mouth to be carried

as the awfullest things your voice has named
and thus made material

Hold them
