Timing is Everything, Nearly

Timing is Everything, Nearly

When to
make a thing
of an idea,
to manifest
what your
mind has
until now
only murmured.

When to
pounce.

When to
trust the
thickness
of ice
to hold
you, when
to give your
weight
and when to
move.

When to
reveal
the four
of diamonds,
the duplicate
of the card
the girl
had chosen.

When to
pause
in order
to notice.

When to
sew your life
to another
person.

When to
pause
for effect.

When to
go to
the doctor,
a cough
crouched
in your
throat.

When
to rush.

When to
drive home,
and when
to wait
for the sky
to empty itself.

At the moment we're learning in a class about marriage and chatting to friends who're getting married etc and that image of ... sewing yourself to another person whether it be marriage, friendship, a link, a loop, a thred... that's juts just BEAUTIFUL hannah! GUSH GUSH! and GUSH! I love this one.

  3. When to give praise? Every time I read one of your poems! Thank you for this one, giving me a sense of both peace and inquisitiveness. I especially like the opening, and the idea of the pause in order to notice, or the pause to take effect, reminding me of the "pregnant" pause, which you are so good at.
