That’s How I Roll

That’s How I Roll

What did the enormous boulder say
to the little village, when it was dislodged
by lightning and sent plummeting
into the valley. What did the lucky dice
say to the gambler, looking coyly
through snake eyes. What did the broken
emergency brake say to the steep
hill it was parked on. What did the person
who had been on fire say to the yard
once the flames were smothered. What did
the cue ball say when it collided
with the eight ball. What did the baker say
to the dough as he flattened it.
What did Wile E. Coyote plan to say to
Road Runner after unleashing
the steamroller, but just then saw the
steamroller heading for him.
What did the freshly-bathed dog say as she
flung herself into the mulch
and mud of the garden. What did the
boy say to the girl he loved
when he skated backwards toward her
at United Skates of America.
What did the chef say to his culinary
students on Burrito Day.
What did the flat tire say, apologetically,
to the other tires. What did
the jeans say to the woman’s calf when
she stood near the ocean.
What did the wave say to the woman
when it drenched her.

  1. Love the Carnac the Magnificent comedic technique here – the magic of words, how they, unlike people, always seem to get along.

  2. Yes, I love the last line too! And this one:
    What did the
boy say to the girl he loved
when he skated backwards toward her
    at United Skates of America.

    Ah, nostalgia.
